I understand cyber criminology as a multidisciplinary phenomenon concerned with the study of crimes that take place in cyberspace. Therefore, as a scholar and practitioner of digital transformation, I have recently developed an interest in the cyber behavior of citizens. Since 2019, I have been heavily involved in cyber security initiatives through the Ministry of ICT, Postal, and Courier Services. I would participate in drafting national cyber security awareness, education, and training programs. In 2019, I conducted several programs around the country targeting government employees, businesses, and citizens. This is because a triune relationship exists among these entities. I also used to prepare and edit reports, meeting agendas and minutes, PowerPoint and other presentations, compliance audits and site-assisted visit reports, and information bulletins. In the same year, I participated in the drafting and finalization of the Cybersecurity and Data Protection Bill (2019).
As a scholar, I supervised postgraduate students who worked on the following research topics:
A Multidimensional Strategy for Enhancing Cyber Resilience in E-Government Systems
The purpose was to expand the cyber aperture to a multi-dimensional protection strategy that includes developing damage-limiting system architecture and enhancing cyber resilience for e-government systems. Several contributions justify the importance of this study. First, while complete security may not be possible for e-government systems, identifying the factors that influence government and organization's ability to embrace cyber resilience is critical in order to be better prepared for any eventuality and protect against data loss and hacking. Second, the study attempted to demonstrate that the benefits gained by both the government and organizations from implementing cyber resilience outweighed the costs of implementation.
Determinants of a Cyber-Security Model for E-Government Systems in Zimbabwe
The developed model can be utilized during the design phase as a prescriptive tool or as a compliance check before the final adoption of the final product. Additionally, the developed model will make it possible for cyber security threats to be identified and mitigated during the development phase of digital systems that contribute to implementing cybersecurity in e-government systems.
A Framework for the Prevention of Cyberbullying in Zimbabwean Colleges
The study argued that the negative effects inherent in cyberbullying are not slight or trivial and have the potential to inflict serious psychological, emotional, or social harm. When experienced among members of this highly impressionable and often volatile adolescent population, this harm can result in violence, injury, and even death, as well as later criminality for both the initiator and recipient of bullying. As a result, raising awareness about cyberbullying prevention can lead to less violence, victimization, and bullying.
Currently, I am revising a paper entitled "A Citizen-centric Cyber security Model for Promoting Good Cybersecurity Behavior" to be published in the Journal of Cyber Security Technology. In addition, I am supervising a dissertation entitled "Model for Constructing Positive Cybersecurity Attitudes among Urban Youths in Zimbabwe" This work demonstrates my passion for studying and unpacking cyber security behavior in different contexts. I am willing to do more research on cybercriminology.
