Abstract
Type 2 diabetes is by far the most common form of diabetes-it occurs in 90% of cases. Most patients with type 2 produce altered or even normal amounts of insulin, but due to disturbances in liver and muscle cells, insulin resistance occurs. Insulin binds to cell receptors, but glucose can enter the cell and this condition is known as insulin resistance. The disease usually begins gradually and progresses slowly. Symptoms do not have to appear for years, even decades. In advanced disease, excessive thirst, increased urination, fatigue, blurred vision, and weight loss occur. Vaginal fungal infections are common in women.
