Abstract

For understanding low carbohydrate restriction (LCD) and fundamental nutritional information, we have to know the role and relationships among three major nutrients. During the 7 million years of hunter-gatherer history, the trio of insulin, carbohydrates, and GLUT4 is thought to have functioned primarily as a fat storage device. During latest 10,000 years, agriculture was established and refined carbohydrates have become a regular part of our meals nowadays. This situation has brought the accumulation of excess triglycerides and insulin as obesity hormone. While there are essential amino acids and essential fatty acids among major nutrients, there are no essential carbohydrates.
