The nursing team, composed of nurses, technicians and nursing assistants, is the largest workforce in patient care [1]. The involvement of nurses in the hospital environment is on the rise, as their involvement in decision-making is evident, with a clear contribution to the qualification of patient care, generating organizational changes and promoting patient safety [2]. As a science, nursing theories are essential to support nursing practices in health institutions, but there is no nursing theory that reflects patient needs, considering their particularities, the aging population, and the increasing complexity of cases [3]. Therefore, nursing management is an area of intervention with strategic and paramount importance for ensuring the quality of care to be provided by any healthcare organization [4]. In order to fulfill this need, a certification developed in phases, considering the maturity of the group, helps and impacts the organizations participating in the patient care process. Therefore, the objective of this research is to demonstrate the vast contribution of the planning of the management model of nursing team that is so relevant to health services to improve care practice.
Method
By actively listening to the partner institutions of the Instituto Qualisa de Gestão (IQG), information on the benefits for care practice and management after the Distinction of Nursing Service Certification was collected. This data wasthen compared with updated scientific literature to identify differences between managers' perceptions and the theoretical basis available in journals.
Results
After the certification of the Nursing Service, improvements were identified by the managers, such as: the organization of professional work with adjustments of organizational and management elements; the performance of the nurse manager competencies by the influence of organizational culture and strategic objectives; the relationships between the microsystems making assistance more humanized by potentiating intersectionality through policies; the greater autonomy in critical analyses and decision making by the support to this team of professionals; the use of management tools that make it possible to combine nursing care theories with management theories with broader views on access; the certification methodology that favors the engagement of professionals without a prescriptive character, so that the local context is considered; and the prominence in the assistance because they are more capable of facing the health challenges in the formulation of policies and promotion of the workforce.
Discussion
The Nursing Services Distinction Certification is focused on repositioning the nursing professional, inserting him or her in the high-performance strategy for excellence of both care and management. Knowing that time is a resource, the condition of balance becomes essential, so that management practice is not overly bureaucratized in a way that compromises the care activities that should be performed. Thus, the nurse's role in integrated care expands access to the health service and allows the application of patient safety protocols, supported by the ethical principles of the profession, to contribute to the production of knowledge and organizational learning.
Conclusions
This evaluation model for certification allows the reproducibility of the improvements identified here in other institutions, including those that are already certified, but in a systemic way, because a certification by distinction has the condition to bring a more focused look at a service or microsystem, becoming a competitive advantage, adding value to the care and the professional, and leading to recognition among the multidisciplinary team. Having a certification with valorization of care protocols favors patient-centered care, developing a work environment that promotes more assertive decision-making. A certification that values the nursing professional and inserts management tools and assistance protocols favors patient-centered care, developing a favorable work environment and promoting more assertive decision-making.
