How do I manage my Fluid intake?

  • Water is the second most important thing for life after oxygen and makes up to 78 % of the body.

Average person consumes 8 ounces or 2 liters of water in a day. The more you are out in the sun. You need to replenish more. While your body sweats you feel need to quench your thirst.

8 Tips for proper hydration

  • Start your day with a glass of water and end your day with a glass of water before going to bed. As while you sleep you lose water.
  • If you are working in office or going for trip carry a water bottle with you.
  • Coffee or tea do not have diuretic effect but provide good fluid with minimum loss. But alcohols act as diuretic and leads to water loss.
  • If you sweat more you will feel thirstier ...so drink more water.
  • Remember average sweat rates are:
  • 5 L/hour to 2.5 L/hour or may be more.
  • Begin workout well hydrated. Approximately 500 ml of water before 1 to 3 hours of exercise...keeps you hydrated.
  • Hydration during exercise...every 15 to 20 min consume a glass of water. You can take sips in longer training sessions. Sports drinks help you maintain electrolyte balance.
  • Hydration after activity...after exercise drink 500 ml to 1000 ml of water. Even if you don't feel thirsty.

What happens if I consume too much water?

If you do so your sodium levels will go down. It is known as “hypernatremia”.
