Abstract

Oral diseases are one of the major public health issues worldwide, affecting an estimated 3.5 billion individuals and imposing a considerable burden on quality of life, social-relations and healthcare resources. Dental caries is the most common oral disease, manifests as a process affecting hard tissues and if untreated ultimately results in pulpal- and periapical-related disorders which causes pain, infection and/ or tooth loss. Root canal treatment (RCT) is the most established endodontic procedure that aims to eradicate infection of the root canal system, maintain the natural tooth structure and restore normal oral function. Root canal treatment has greatly benefitted from advances in endodontic technologies such as rotary instrumentation, more efficient irrigation protocols, magnification systems and biocompatible filling materials which in turns have significantly increasing its success and predictability over the past few decades [1-8].
