A Case Report on Umbilical Sepsis and Ritter Disease

Abstract

The umbilical cord connects the fetus and the mother during pregnancy. It has direct access to the bloodstream and hence even a mild infection can become serious quickly and may lead to sepsis with life-threatening damage to organs and tissues. Ritter disease, also called Staphylococcal Scalded Skin Syndrome (SSSS) occurs when the exotoxins produced by the Staphylococcal species produces total body redness, blistering and skin sloughing.
