FEF 25-75 in Pediatric Asthma: Should it be Left in the Past?

Abstract

Lung function tests are important in asthma. Among these, spirometry is the main study recommended for the diagnosis and monitoring of pediatric asthma. Forced expiratory flow between 25-75% of forced vital capacity (FEF_25-75) is a spirometry parameter whose clinical utility has been controversial in recent years. This review summarizes the available scientific evidence on the usefulness of FEF_25-75 in the diagnosis and monitoring of asthma in children and adolescents.
